Born in 1994 in Paris, Edgar Moreau began playing the cello at the age of four, as well as the piano, an instrument for which he won his prize at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory in 2010. He then perfected his skills with Philippe Muller at the CNSM in Paris.
Born in 1994, Edgar Moreau is a prizewinner of the Rostropovich and Tchaikovsky Competitions, as well as the 2014 Young Concert Artist Award. He trained at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) with Philippe Muller, then at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson. A sought-after soloist and chamber musician, he performs with prestigious orchestras such as the London Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala, and Orchestre de Paris, under the baton of conductors like Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, and Nathalie Stutzmann. A regular guest at festivals including Salzburg, Verbier, and Edinburgh, he also shares the stage with Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma, and Daniil Trifonov, among others. An exclusive Erato artist, his acclaimed discography includes Transmission, Giovincello, A Family Affair, and most recently Rococo (Warner Classics, 2024), featuring works by Tchaikovsky and Chopin. Since September 2023, he has been a cello professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He plays a 1711 David Tecchler cello and a Dominique Peccatte bow
