Nearly twenty years after his first complete performance of Schumann's symphonies with the Staatskapelle Berlin, of which he has been the conductor for life since 2000, Daniel Barenboim continues to explore them. Steeped in German tradition, with sounds both dense and nuanced, the Staatskapelle is a vessel perfectly suited to this universe, of which it possesses intimate knowledge.
Violinist Clara-Jumi Kang is an artist of supreme musicianship, impeccable refinement, and poise, as evidenced by the numerous awards and honors she has received since bursting onto the scene by winning the Indianapolis International Violin Competition in 2010, following successes at the Seoul Violin Competition (2009) and the Sendai Violin Competition (2010).
Her cycle of Beethoven violin sonatas with pianist Sunwook Kim, released by Accentus last season, received excellent reviews and nominations.
