After being one of the founding members of the Jerusalem Quartet in 1995 as a viola player, Amihai Grosz has been principal viola of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2010.
As a soloist, this season he plays Béla Bartok's viola concerto and Martinu's Rhapsody Concerto, and he participates in orchestral formations: the Sharoun Ensemble, the Baroque soloists.
He was assistant conductor of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn and a member of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He regularly collaborates with Daniel Barenboim in the West-Eastern-Divan Orchestra, where he leads the viola section. As a chamber musician, he joins many of his colleagues from the Berliner Philharmoniker and other partners such as Jeanine Jansen, Daniel Hope, Guy Braunstein, and pianist Sunwook Kim. He plays a 1570 viola by Gaspar da Salo.
