Born in 1983, he began his studies at the Stockholm Chamber Music Institute at the age of 6 with Torleif Thedéen. After obtaining his soloist diploma, he completed his training at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Ralph Kirshbaum and obtained his concert examination at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Frans Helmerson.

Jakob Koranyi also attended numerous master classes at music festivals with other great masters such as Boris Pergamenschikow, Heinrich Schiff, Gary Hoffman, Janos Starker and Paul Katz.

Winner of numerous prizes and scholarships, he won all the Swedish competitions – Young Soloist in 2002, Ljunggrenska Competition in 2004 and Swedish Soloist Prize in 2006. That same year, the Verbier Festival Academy awarded him the Firmenich Prize and the Honorary Prize, which earned him a solo recital at the 2007 Verbier Festival.

In 2009, Jakob Koranyi received the 2nd Grand Prize at the Rostropovich Competition in Paris. He has since been a member of the Chamber Music Society Two program at Lincoln Center and is one of the rising stars promoted by ECHO (European Concert Hall Organization).

Jakob Koranyi plays a Domenico Montagnana cello from 1742, which was made available to him by the Swedish Järnåker Foundation.
